There are three things you should do before taking your four year old on her first trip to the movies.
1. You need to have an up-to-date time table for the train you’re planning to catch. If you fail to do this your trip will start out on bad footing with the afore mentioned four year old in tears while attempting to chase the train down on foot. Secondly missing your train will mean missing your connecting bus which will leave you horrendously late.
2. During your night before prep searching the website of the shopping centre you’re going to for a map and perhaps even downloading it to your iphone might be a good plan. Failure to do this will inevitably lead to getting hopelessly lost in a centre that used to be like a second home to you…17 years ago.
3. This point may be the most important of all. Do not, under any circumstances, promise your four year old popcorn because when the above two points happen the last thing you’re going to want is to hear “are we going to get popcorn yet?” the entire way through the movie because you didn’t have a chance to call into the candy bar.
Luckily once you get there things will start looking up. The movie hasn’t started and though they’re less than ideal there are two seats together still available.
Everyone who knows me knows that I love kids’ movies. If you look in our DVD cabinet you’ll see that movies aimed at younger viewers far outnumber those for adults, so when I was asked if I wanted to review Cars 2 I jumped at the chance!
This was only the second 3D movie I’ve seen and the production value of Cars 2 was far better than the other. I actually saw the Disney logo as though it was a metre in front of my eyes! Sadly though, Erin failed to appreciate how very cool 3D is. Of course she probably thinks that it’s all part of the theatre experience and will ask for her glasses when we next take her to see something, which could be a problem.
The movie itself was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the exploration of Mater’s character and liked watching the movie become more about him—an average Joe—than a world famous racing car. The storyline itself was more in depth and complex than the first which is another thing I appreciated.
Overall I’d say this was a really fun movie, there were some comedic scenes that had the audience laughing out loud and enjoying themselves, a love interest and the overarching theme of friendship and what it means to be someone’s friend. Erin is still thrilled at having seen Cars 2 and continues to talk about how the cars “rolled and had wheels”. I would say that this is a movie aimed at older kids so taking younger kids and toddlers might be a bit more of an experience, but still an enjoyable experience.
Cars 2 is in cinemas now!
